The National Fire Prevention Association requires, by law, that there must be one Trained Crowd Staff Member per 250 patrons in any area of public assembly nationwide. While required, many venues do not provide this comprehensive training for their staff members.
Per NFPA 101 Life Safety Code; Event venues will be asked by local fire marshals to provide documentation on TCSM certifications for each staff member in the building during an event.

Renewal is required every 3 years and is contingent on successful completion of continuing education credits each year after initial certification.

Continuing education credits (CEC) are provided through NCS4, ASIS, IAVM, FEMA Emergency Institute, CrowdSafe or other NFPA recognized courses. Successful completion of any course results in one (1) CEC.

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will be able to determine all elements of risk in the event industry, how to mitigate the risks and threat found in the event industry, the basics of understanding Crowd Management, Emergency Preparedness and Evacuations, Fire Awareness and Prevention, and proper protocols when assisting patrons with ADA needs in the event industry.

Absolutely. A checkpoint test is required to be taken at the end of each module. Those that pass with 80% or better will be allowed to continue on to the next module. There is no limit to the number of times you can train on one module, but you can only take each module test a maximum of three attempts.

All certificates will be emailed to the membership within 2 weeks following successful completion of the TCSM course.
A copy can be requested and obtained at any point after successful completion until renewal date.
